DAISY-Her exploits so far.

DAISY
April 2010-Not much bloody longer if she keeps this up:
  1. Jumped out of the car and ran into and around Blockbuster, looking to see what she wanted to rent.
  2. Decided that Louise needed a new mobile, so chewed up the current one.
  3. Phoned us from the upstairs telephone.
  4. Phoned our carpenter at 6.20am, again by biting the phone.
  5. Chewed the cane furniture in the conservatory...and the wine rack...and the door frame.
  6. On her first visit to a friend of Louise's she poo'd on her cream carpet and the smell made her son physically sick.
  7. Chewed a new, ready-to-be-fitted door.
  8. Tore the cheques we received as Christmas gifts in half.
She also does a very good impression of Fenton when i take her for a walk to Twywell Hills and Dales.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Something on the radio made me laugh on the way to work today. Recent statistics show that men are worse at parking than women. That wasn't the funny part, but all the men know that's not true!  Just kidding ladies! The funny bit was a couple of examples listeners had provided, describing some quality parking efforts by women.

  1. A lady reversed her car through her own fence, and managed to blame her husband for "Painting the fence too darkly using creosote!"  His fault then.
  2. Another lady reversed straight backwards into a legally parked car.  Her reason for this was that "There wasn't normally anyone parked there."  Oh.  That's all right then, fair enough.
On another note, apparently today is Happy Monday!  According to a senior psychologist in Manchester who says that today is the happiest Monday of the year.( I wasn't aware that any Monday is a good Monday). It seems that because its the first pay day after Christmas and the lack of funds through January, we should all be over the moon. Mmmm.  Not sure i agree.  In addition to Happy Monday, there are 11 happy days this year.  You probably have most of them already marked on your calendar, as they are bank holidays, with the jubilee celebrations earmarked as an extended period of this happiness.  Supposedly due to the fact it gives us an extra day off and a long weekend.  Try telling that to the workers in retail.  There's only 2.8 million of them....

It seems that in the next few years more stringent regulations will be enforced with regards to immigrants from outside the E.U.  Only those higher skilled, qualified professionals will be allowed to stay.  The problem with this is that who will do the lower paid, more physical jobs that a lot of immigrants do now?  Not our own unemployed as many of them would rather sit on their arses and collect benefits.  Not all, but many.

Today i sent off my application for an expenses allowance from the government for washing my work clothes.  Sounds quite picky, but if some people can claim benefits for everything then i'm going to get what i can.  Here is a link to more info on the subject.http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/eim32485.htm

Cowboys and Aliens....

Watched the film "Cowboys and Aliens" last night.  "Cowboys, Aliens, Red Indians and Bond", would have been nearer to the truth to be fair.  In theory Daniel Craig was the lead but when Harrison Ford is involved in any film its difficult to look much further than him, especially given Craig's terrible American accent.  Now i'm a huge fan of the Fleming novels and subsequent films, and when i saw Craig in "Layer Cake" i thought he would make a fantastic Bond. Perhaps this was because he played the role in that film almost as Bond; quite emotionless and calculating. Consequently he is superb as Bond, as many have pointed out but this appears to have allowed him to take the techniques he uses to play Bond and apply them to the character of Jake Lonegan. Perhaps it was the script that was at fault. An example of this is a scene whereby Lonegan is confronted in the bar by the sheriff and his collegues. Of course he soon turns the tables on them and holds the upper hand.  Its a harmless film, which i did enjoy as a "Don't need to work things out movie," and let my eyes just soak it up. I just think it didn't need Craig and perhaps they used his and Ford's names to attract the punters.

In the beginning....

I am an average man.  I have 2.4 children.  One boy and one girl.  The .4 is the dog, Daisy.  She is as much hassle and causes probably more stress than the kids. I live in your average three bedroom, semi-detached house in an average (though many residents would say falling below average) town called Kettering.  I am married, a non-smoker, enjoy a drink and have worked in retail for fifteen years.  I was created during 1974 an was presented to the world in 1975. This is where we start then, thirty-six years in. I will post things that have happened to me, or things i have been involved in. My thoughts on films i have seen, books i have read, meals i have eaten...all the really exciting things that the average family man does, day-in, day-out, week-in, week-out, month-in...that's enough of that.  Follow me if you wish. Some things may cheer you up, some may make you upset or angry. If you don't want to follow then stop reading right now. Stop then. Stop looking....still here? Okay then, here we go.  Second star to the left and straight on 'till morning.  This could be a long journey, you may need a bigger boat....
